The client is always in control of the entire ART session, with the therapist guiding the process. Although some traumatic experiences can be painful to think about or visualize, the therapy rapidly moves clients beyond the place where they are stuck in these experiences toward growth and positive changes. The process is very straightforward, using relaxing eye movements and a technique called Voluntary Memory/Image Replacement to change the way in which the negative images are stored in the brain. The end result is that traumas and difficult life experiences will no longer trigger strong emotions or physical reactions. Importantly, clients do not even have talk about their traumas or difficult life experiences with the therapist to achieve recovery.
Kristine is trained in the use of Accelerated Resolution Therapy and has used it to help veterans and first responders with PTSD, mothers with birth trauma, clients with trauma (accidents, assault, vistims of crime, childhood abuse, moral injuries, etc.) treatment resistant depression and anxiety, problems with self-image/self-esteem, disordered eating and relationship problems.
The first session with Kristine is 50 minutes and helps you to learn more about ART, ensure that it is the right treatment for you and to prepare for your first ART session. Then each ART session after is 80 minutes. Once the issues have been resolved using ART, some clients wish to continue with traditional therapy (skill building, etc.) and some are discharged and only return when needed.
Kristine received her Advanced and Enhanced training in Accelerated Resolution Therapy, which is the highest level of pracitioner training in A.R.T.

Accelerated Resolution Therapy is an evidence-based form of therapy that utilizes back and forth eye movements (the same type seen in REM sleep) to help clients address common problems such as Depression, Anxiety, Phobias and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. It is not the same as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) or hypnosis. In experiencing ART clients often find that the pieces of information connect with elements already stored in your memory to help find a resolution to the problem. The brain, while focusing on a problem and concurrently using eye movements, makes new connections with a person's strengths and problem solving abilities.
ART is a very focused eye movement therapy and as such, can produce quick, effective and safe results in treating Anxiety, Depression, Traumas, Phobias, Relationship Issues and grief, to name a few.
When initially thinking about a problem at the start of an ART session, clients may feel the usual unease about it. Clients quickly pass beyond their anxiety or saddness to first experience calm and then, as the problem looses it's hold, relief. At the completion of ART treatment, evidence to date shows that the changes will be long lasting.
With ART, we say Keep the Facts, Lose the Pain.
During an ART session, the client is in total control of the therapy. You speak just as you would in a session that does not involve eye movements - but you do not have to talk about your problem during session and you don't have to talk during the eye movements at all. Physical sensations will be processed by using the eye movements so that disturbing sensations or emotions can disappear and positive feelings can be enhanced. Disturbing images or problems can often be replaced with positive images and subsequently when you think about the problem, your brain recalls the positive replacement. The ART eye movements are also used to help the brain engage in problem solving and often we use creative visualization to aid in the resolution of a problem. The norm is that clients leave ART sessions feeling positive and confident.
